FACELIFT

February 12th, 2009

We have recently been awarded a substantial grant from ‘Awards for All’ to replace the Hall windows.  The Hall certainly looks very different with its brand new front door and double glazed replacement windows.  Fife Windows and Doors Ltd, Glenrothes did a fantastic job for us.  Hopefully all users of the Hall will feel the benefit of the new windows in a warmer (and therefore greener) environment.  We are saving hard to finish the job off by replacing both side doors.  As a result of this work we are hoping to save on our heating costs.  This work forms part of the Committee’s ongoing refurbishment programme.

Please come along and support our events to boost our funds further so that we can improve this community facility for all.

Thanks to Bob

May 30th, 2008

The Hall Committee would like to express their gratitude to Bob Grier who has announced his retirement from the position of Caretaker.  Bob has looked after Largoward Public Hall for 61 years and without his hard work and dedication the Hall would not be what it is today.  He has maintained a vital community asset which is now used by villagers regularly.  Largoward Primary School now utilise the hall for their physical edcuation and drama sessions.  Thanks to Bob for 61 years loyal service.

Meeting Minutes 24/9/07

October 15th, 2007

Largoward & District Community Council (LW&DCC) met on Monday 24th September. 4 members of council, the councillor and 2 members of the public attended.

  1. Traffic. The detailed proposals (for the St Andrews Road 30mph zone extension, and for the Cupar Rd ‘Village Gateway’ signs) are not yet ready, so Colin Stirling (Transportation, Fife Council) now intends to come to the October meeting.
  2. New Bus Shelter. Thank you, Fife Council, for providing a new Southbound bus shelter, with clear polycarbonate panels, set back from St Andrews Rd on paving near the Staghead Hotel.
  3. Additional Bus Stop. Work has begun on an additional St Andrews Rd bus stop, though neither the community council, nor the councillor, were informed beforehand. Worryingly, the location is just north-east of the church where there are already major drainage problems. Cllr Elizabeth Riches (CllrER) will try to ensure the drainage problem is solved before the bus stop is fully installed
  4. A Pavement to the New Bus Stop from Hall Park was requested. CllrER will look into this with Fife Council.
  5. Sewage Works and Water. Brendan Williams, Scottish Water, plans to come to the 29th October LW&DCC meeting. Last month Scottish Water fixed the leaking hydrant in Cupar Rd. CllrER will follow up reported seepage from a drain cover in the pavement outside 14 Cupar Rd.
  6. Recycling bins. Fife Council has begun concreting a small area by the Staghead for recycling bins to stand on. CllrER will see whether Fife Council can level the whole area.
  7. The Play Park pothole was looked at by CllrER after the meeting. The hole has expanded since it was first reported; CllrER will chase Fife Council about it.
  8. The Largoward & District Community Council (LW&DCC) Inaugural Meeting will be on 29th October – i.e. the hand-over for the new 3 year session. New members will be Peter Bryant, Tim Havard, Joanna Secker Walker, Eric Small, Heather Taylor and Alexina Waddell. During the meeting, Bob Grier was co-opted as a CC member for the next session. The new CC can co-opt one more member if they choose to do so at any time during the session.
  9. A.O.B.
    1.
      1. Extra Bus Stops. From 29th October, the Stagecoach bus will stop up near the church on St Andrews Rd as well as down near the Staghead Hotel.
      2. New Stagecoach bus routes. From 29th October there will be no direct bus from Largoward to Edinburgh. Passengers will have to go into St Andrews to catch a direct bus to Edinburgh, or go from Largoward to Leven or Kirkcaldy and change. There will, however, be a direct bus (X26) from Largoward to Glasgow from 29th October.
      3. The New Fife Structure Plan has been produced. Fewer new houses are now planned for Fife as more people are expected to be living in each house.
  10. Meeting ended 7.56pm.Next meeting: Village Hall. 7pm Monday 29th October. Inaugural meeting. Colin Stirling (Transportation, Fife Council) & Brendan Williams (Scottish Water) plan to attend.
